LAS VEGAS, NEV (Oct. 2, 2025) — In partnership with the City of Las Vegas, State of Nevada, and the Mayor’s Fund for Las Vegas LIFE, an independent 501 (c)(3) nonprofit that supports city initiatives, announces the launch of a $10 million fundraising campaign to establish the Nevada State Veterans Memorial at the Thunderbird Family Sports Complex, 6105 N. Durango Drive.
The Memorial will feature 18 larger-than-life bronze statues by sculptor Douwe Blumberg that are being relocated from the Grant Sawyer building to their new permanent location in the northwest region of the City of Las Vegas. The statues, which each stand an impressive 7.5 feet tall, were originally commissioned by the state in 2011 to honor American military service from the Revolutionary War through present day.
“We are creating a new and beautiful open-air promenade, complete with landscaping, an amphitheater, and informational signage, as the permanent home for these magnificent sculptures that will establish the destination as a premier gathering space. Here, we willhonor Nevada’s 200,000-plus veterans in a dedicated place of healing, inspiration and education,” said City of Las Vegas Councilwoman Francis Allen-Palenske, Ward 4, where the planned Nevada State Veterans Memorial is located.
“As proud residents of Nevada, we honor the brave men and women who risked everything to defend our freedom,” stated Governor Joe Lombardo. “Today, by moving these sculptures to a more prominent location, we reaffirm our commitment to honor their sacrifice and keep their memories alive.”
Gov. Lombardo, City of Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley, and local veterans’ organizations will headline a campaign kick-off event on Nov. 11. More information on that event is forthcoming.
