Community business donates $8,587 to the American Cancer Society
Reno – With the help of its generous customers, Moana Nursery presented a check for more than $8,500 to the American Cancer Society to support breast cancer research. For the third year in a row, Moana Nursery celebrated Breast Cancer Awareness Month by decorating all three stores with pink. Moana Nursey employees participated in the Real Men Wear Pink campaign, sporting ‘Proud, Pink & Planted’ shirts, both in the stores and in Landscape Services. This campaign was led by Moana Nursery President Scott Gescheider, Retail General Manager Matt Pulliam and entire management team. Moana Nursery is known for its more than 50 years of community service. Since 2016, Moana Nursery has raised more than $26,000 for the Real Men Wear Pink campaign.
“We are excited to once again partner with the American Cancer Society to help fight this horrendous disease,” Gescheider said. “Everyone knows a friend, colleague or family member who has been impacted by cancer. The Real Men Wear Pink campaign gives our Moana team a great opportunity to contribute. Their willingness to embrace this campaign makes it an enjoyable and rewarding experience that we are proud of. We look forward to participating again in 2019.”
“Every ounce of energy the Moana Nursery team put into this is so appreciated,” said June Hunter, American Cancer Society health systems manager. “This check presentation represents an incredible commitment from not only Scott, but his entire team. They even hosted the Nevada Health Center’s Mammovan at their Moana Lane store, and 10 women received mammograms. They will host it again on November 7 at their Pyramid Way location. Increasing early detection screening in Nevada is key to saving lives.”
In Nevada alone, it is estimated that 2,180 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018. Donations like those from Moana Nursery help raise awareness, to support the American Cancer Society in facilitating research, education, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
