Perfect for a holiday treat or goodwill gesture, the person who makes you smile could still win a $1,000 Visa card and other goodies through the Move 4 Less Community Smiles Nominations. Nominations are now being accepted for the December and January honoree.
U.S.VETS – Las Vegas was named the November winner. The local veterans nonprofit was recognized for its team’s efforts making military veterans and their families smile by helping them with housing, counseling, career development and comprehensive support.
“We do this work because we believe that veterans should never have to sleep on the streets they fought to defend,” said Michelle Johnston, director of behavioral health for U.S.VETS – Las Vegas. “We’re so appreciative of the people who nominated us and this opportunity through Move 4 Less. When we receive recognition, it validates that we are not alone in this fight.” She said they plan to use the Visa gift card on services for veterans that are unallowable by their VA grant. “The flexibility of a gift card allows us to provide services that otherwise wouldn’t be possible.”
Move 4 Less created the Community Smiles Nominations as an extension of its tagline, “Smile! It’s Moving Day!” This is reflective of its efforts to move customers as easily and stress-free as possible as they start anew in their new home or office. “We’re always looking for ways to give back to the community that has supported us for more than 18 years, and thought we could create more smiles by asking people to nominate the everyday heroes in their lives who make them smile in November, December and January,” said Maggie Kolesar, general sales manager for Move 4 Less. “We think it’s important for people to be recognized for kind deeds, especially when they least expect it.”

The deadline for December and January nominations is Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, at midnight PST; and Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, at midnight PST, respectively. Move 4 Less will contact the winners during the first week following their award to schedule the presentation of their Smile Appreciation Basket loaded with goodies and the $1,000 Visa card.
The same person may be nominated multiple times in each designated month but can only win one time, so there will be different winners. Only one nomination per person per day will be accepted. Nominees must be 18 years of age or older and a Southern Nevada resident. In the case of a tie, the nominee with the most unique nominations will be declared the winner.
“It was great to read the many nominations we received for U.S.VETS – Las Vegas and the other nominees and how selfless people are,” said Kolesar. “It’s also a nice reminder of the good going on in our community. We hope people will take advantage of this opportunity to recognize a neighbor, coworker, family member, friend, service worker, store employee or someone else because of their service, random acts of kindness, or just being available to help when needed.”
