RENO, Nev. – My Hometown Heroes, a national scholarship fund dedicated to supporting college-bound cancer survivors, is proud to announce its 2025 Board of Directors and the appointment of new members to its executive leadership team. These distinguished professionals bring a wealth of experience and a shared commitment to bridging the gap between cancer and college, one scholarship at a time.
The new slate of executive board officers includes the following:
- Brian Anderson, President — Granite Construction
- Coleman Smith, Vice President — Eagle Windows & Doors
- Ken Bayless, Treasurer — Eide Bailly
- Lindsey Cortes, Secretary — United Federal Credit Union
Additionally, My Hometown Heroes is excited to welcome new board members Heather Velasquez from Health Benefits Associates, Inc. and Seung (Bruce) Lee from Infinite Potential Advisors. Their expertise and dedication will play a crucial role in advancing the organization’s mission. Returning board members include Tom Fitzgerald, Jen Eastwood, Kevin Carroll, Garrett Winkelmaier, Kevin Cote and Pete Parker.

The operations team at My Hometown Heroes has also expanded with MHH scholarship alumni Victoria Matthews as Program Development and Champions Relations. Mackenzie Winkelmaier has also joined the team as Donor Relations and Events Coordinator.
My Hometown Heroes remains dedicated to providing scholarships to cancer survivors enrolled in universities, community colleges and trade schools across the nation. Through the power of creativity, community and collaboration, the organization inspires with stories of hope and progress.

Battle Born in the State of Nevada, My Hometown Heroes (MHH) is a national scholarship fund for young adult cancer survivors. University of Nevada grad, Danny Heinsohn, started the foundation in 2010 to celebrate his 10th year of brain cancer remission. Since 2011, MHH has awarded scholarships to young adult survivors from across the country in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.
