Proceeds from event helps fund scholarships for college bound cancer survivors
RENO, Nev. – My Hometown Heroes is inviting the Northern Nevada community to come together for a feel-good poker showdown during the third annual Ante Up Poker Tournament on Saturday, November 18 at the CalNeva. Poker fans can expect an evening of food, drink and fun while going all in for a good cause. Every chip played and hand dealt directly benefits college-bound cancer survivors with scholarships for the upcoming 2024 school year.
“Each year, we love bringing the community together for a fun night of poker and celebration,” said Brian Anderson, a former young adult cancer survivor himself, My Hometown Heroes board member and chair of the Ante Up Poker Tournament. “We’ve been able to break records each year thanks to the incredible support from the community and help get young cancer survivors through college. Let’s ante up for a good cause.”
Tickets are $125 per person or $1,000 for a table of 10. Table sponsor opportunities are also available for $1,500 and $2,500.
Each ticket includes $3,000 in chips plus food and drink. The first-place winner will take home a $500 prize, second place wins $250 and third place wins $125. Check-in begins at 5 p.m. and the tournament will begin at 6 p.m.
Sports fans will be able to watch the Nevada Wolf Pack football game and Las Vegas Grand Prix Formula One race on the big screens during the tournament.

Battle Born in the State of Nevada, My Hometown Heroes (MHH) is a national scholarship fund for young adult cancer survivors. University of Nevada grad, Danny Heinsohn, started the foundation in 2010 to celebrate his 10th year of brain cancer remission. Since 2011, MHH has awarded over $250,000 in scholarships to young adult survivors from across the country.
