LAKE TAHOE, Nev. (Sept. 8, 2025) – For more than forty years, The Nevada Mining Association (NVMA) has held its Annual Convention in Lake Tahoe, bringing together leaders, experts, and members from across the industry. From September 3 to 5, NVMA hosted over 760 attendees, connecting members and leaders to discuss market trends, share best practices, and look forward to the future of Nevada’s mining industry through this year’s theme: “Nevada Mining: Our Story, The Future.”
“Mining is both an economic driver and a way of life in Nevada, remaining a top mining jurisdiction globally,” said Amanda Hilton, President of NVMA. “The theme of ‘Our Story, The Future’ underscores our shared responsibility to build on today’s strengths while preparing for tomorrow’s opportunities. ”
Attendees heard from Jeremy Aguero, Principal Analyst with Applied Analysis, who presented a Lunch Session on the State of Nevada’s Mining Industry, reaffirming that mining remains one of Nevada’s major economic drivers, contributing $191 million in tax revenue and supporting 30,000 jobs in 2024. With an average annual wage of $120,200 for mining jobs in Nevada, the mining industry outranked the average wages for all other private industries in Nevada, which is about $65,000 a year. This brings Nevada to #2 in the country for average annual job wages in mining, just below Alaska.
In addition to the economic influence of mining in the state, Nevada remains a top driver of gold production, responsible for roughly 70 percent of the nation’s total output. The state also plays a leading role in critical minerals, with production of copper, lithium, magnesium, and barite supporting domestic supply chains, as well as deposits of other important resources.
Attendees also participated in a discussion on the Future of Nevada Mining, featuring a panel of top industry leaders including Henri Gonin, Managing Director of Nevada Gold Mines; Neil Jensen, General Manager of KGHM-Robinson Mine; Joseph Kemp, Vice President and General Manager of Bald Mountain, Kinross Gold Corporation; Ryan Snow, Chief Financial Officer of i-80 Gold Corp; and Robert Ghiglieri, Administrator for the Nevada Division of Minerals. They shared insights on upcoming projects, evolving technologies, and the challenges ahead.
Other events throughout the three-day convention included a session on artificial intelligence and how it is transforming the way mining industry operates; a Nevada-based media panel to offer open and transparent communications between mining companies and journalists, while discussing how the news shapes the public understanding of the mining industry; a session on building relationships with tribal communities to discuss what meaningful consultation looks like, why it matters, and how to approach these important conversations with care; and others.
NVMA concluded the Convention by recognizing 47 individuals, 26 mine operations, and 3 contractor companies for their excellence and commitment to safety with their 2025 Individual Safety Awards and Safety Awards for Mine Operators and Contractors. The Nevada Division of Minerals also announced its annual Excellence in Mine Reclamation Awards, recognizing AngloGold Ashanti’s Sterling Mine, Kinross Gold’s Bald Mountain Mine, and Nevada Gold Mines’ Long Canyon Mine.
“Safety and sustainability are at the heart of Nevada mining,” Hilton said. “Our members are committed to protecting people, restoring the land, and ensuring mining remains a positive force for generations to come. We are proud to stand alongside them as we drive that story forward.”
In addition to workshops, educational sessions, networking and awards, the Convention also offered several charitable opportunities to further support the communities they work in. These included raising funds for Spread The Word Nevada, the state’s largest children’s literacy nonprofit; and a poker party charity event with a percentage of the entry fee benefiting Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation. Between these initiatives, the Convention raised $6,150 in support of childhood literacy and the fight against childhood cancer.
