The Open Enrollment Period for the Nevada Prepaid Tuition Program, through the Nevada Treasury, has been extended till Friday, May 9th, 2025. The program allows Nevadan families to pre-plan their payment for college tuition and allows students to secure the price of in-state tuition early.
The cost of college credit in Nevada increased by 2.79% from 2021 to 2022, by 2.81% from 2022 to 2023, by 2.54% from 2023 to 2024, and experienced a significant rise of 7.05% from 2024 to 2025. In addition to the rising cost of college tuition, according to the Joint Economic Committee, Nevada has seen cumulative inflation of 21.8% from January 2021 to December 2024. In that same time, the average household in Nevada has spent an additional $4,700 on food, $8,000 on housing, $6,100 on energy and $12,400 on transportation.
While the cost of goods can fluctuate year over year, the lump sum, one-time payment rate for Prepaid Tuition has remained the same price for newborns since 2019. With these costs in mind, families are encouraged to sign up now to get ahead of the rising costs of living and unpredictable ramifications of inflation in the future.
“We’re committed to making higher education more accessible and affordable for Nevada families,” said Zach Conine, Nevada’s State Treasurer. “By extending the deadline for the Nevada Prepaid Tuition Program, we’re giving families and students more time to plan, save, and take advantage of this important opportunity. This program is an investment in the long-term success of our communities and Nevada’s next generation.”
At the end of Open Enrollment, one lucky new enrollee will be awarded a grand prize: a two-year community college contract valued at $6,900! All prizes will be applied to the winner’s newly purchased Prepaid Tuition contracts.
Open Enrollment began on November 1, and since its inception, the Nevada Prepaid Tuition Program has paid out over $157 million in tuition benefits and has helped over 9,400 students attend higher education at more than 300 institutions nationwide. The program offers families flexibility with five different plans and four different payment options. Alongside Prepaid Tuition, the Nevada Treasury offers a variety of other college savings options.
