New affordable senior housing community will provide 21 apartment homes for local seniors
CARLIN, Nev. — Nevada Rural Housing joined City of Carlin officials, development partners, and community members on June 17 to celebrate the groundbreaking of Passmore Place Apartments, a new affordable housing community that will provide 21 apartment homes for seniors in Carlin. The development is designed to help address the growing need for quality, affordable housing options for older adults in rural Nevada.
Among those participating in the ceremony were Carlin Mayor Cameron Kinney, members of the Carlin City Council, City staff, project partners, and community stakeholders, all gathered to mark the beginning of a development that will allow local seniors to remain in the community they call home.
“Passmore Place represents an important investment in Carlin and in the residents who want to remain part of this community as they age,” said Beth Dunning, Director of Housing Development for Nevada Rural Housing. “Housing is about more than buildings — it’s about creating opportunities for people to stay connected to their neighbors, their families and the places they call home. We’re proud to partner with the City of Carlin and others to bring this much-needed housing to the community.”
The development’s name honors William Passmore Carlin, the military officer for whom the City of Carlin was named. During the ceremony, attendees reflected on the connection between Carlin’s history and the future residents who will call Passmore Place home.
“One of the things that makes Carlin special is the strong sense of community we share,” said Carlin Mayor Cameron Kinney. “Passmore Place will help ensure that our seniors can continue to be part of that community for years to come. Today’s groundbreaking represents our commitment to supporting the people who built this town and making sure they have a safe, affordable place to call home.”
Once completed, Passmore Place Apartments will offer affordable housing for seniors with modern amenities, accessible design features, and convenient access to community services and resources.
The project reflects the ongoing partnership between Nevada Rural Housing, the City of Carlin, and development stakeholders to expand housing opportunities and strengthen rural Nevada communities.
