Nevada State University (Nevada State) was granted $100,000 from the Governor’s Office of Workforce Innovation (GOWINN) Project SANDI Initiative to help provide professional training and technical certificates at no cost to students that are supported by Nevada Partners in the Nevada State Cyber Security Program. The program works to enhance academic, personal, professional career success while meeting the needs of tomorrow’s information technology workforce.
“This new grant funding will help to uplift the dreams and aspirations of our students in our top-rate cyber security program here at Nevada State University,” said Nevada State President Dr. DeRionne Pollard. “We are so thankful to GOWINN for their commitment to supporting workforce development at our institution.”
The Nevada State Cyber Security Program takes place over a 45-week period, with first hand access to numerous employment opportunities and internships in the Southern Nevada community to help meet the growing needs for certified IT professionals in the workforce.
“We at GOWINN are always looking for innovative workforce and education programs to support in our community, and we are proud to be delivering this grant to Nevada State University,” said Lisa Levine, Executive Director of GOWINN. “This funding will help to bring new cyber security career opportunities for students as well as boosting workforce development here in Nevada.”

Nevada is 1 of 8 States to be awarded the Supporting and Advancing Nevada’s Dislocated Individuals (SANDI) project from the U.S. Department of Education. This investment toward expanding short-term education and training opportunities increases Nevadan’s access to career pathways in Nevada’s priority sectors including healthcare, advanced manufacturing, logistics, information technology (IT) and skilled trades to meet the needs of students, employers, and their local community. Project SANDI has supported more than 500 Nevadans from across the State in partnership with Great Basin College, College of Southern Nevada, Truckee Meadows Community College, Western Nevada College and other training providers.
