The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) recently announced the appointment of Alejandro Rodriguez as its new director of government relations. In his role, Rodriguez will be responsible for the development, implementation, administration, management, and evaluation of strategic initiatives that promote and support the NSHE Board of Regents and the eight NSHE institutions they serve. His main responsibilities will focus on securing federal and state support, fostering a positive policy environment, and building local government partnerships in support of programs and initiatives.
“We are thrilled to have Alejandro on board as our director of government relations,” said Byron Brooks, chairman of the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents. “His extensive experience in government affairs and leadership development, coupled with his passion for educational equity, make him an ideal fit for this position. We look forward to working with him as we continue to advance the goals and priorities of NSHE.”
Rodriguez brings a wealth of experience to his new role at NSHE, having served as district director for Congresswoman Susie Lee during the 117th Congress, where he led and managed the day-to-day operations and strategy for a team of more than ten staffers in the Las Vegas District Office. He previously served as the Nevada director for Leadership for Educational Equity (LEE), a nonpartisan, nonprofit leadership development organization working to end the injustice of educational inequity by inspiring and supporting a diverse set of leaders with classroom experience to engage civically and politically.
In addition, Rodriguez previously served as chief of staff to the deputy secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce, where he provided advice on a range of management, policy, and operational issues, and managed daily operations of the office. He also collaborated with senior department leaders to implement the top policy priorities of the Obama administration. Rodriguez is a graduate of Harvard University, where he earned his A.B. in Government.
He lives in Henderson with his wife, Emma, and his two children, Jack and Sofia. He is an active member of several community organizations, including the Harvard Club of Nevada, the Nevada State Democratic Party State Central Committee, and the Sage Collegiate Public Charter School.
