RENO, Nevada – Nevada Women’s Fund (NWF) successfully hosted its inaugural Celebrating Achievement dinner on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Western Folklife Center in Elko, raising just over $11,000 to support the education and career advancement of women in rural Nevada. The event celebrated the remarkable achievements of local scholarship recipients and recognized the importance of empowering women through education.
This inaugural event underscored NWF’s ongoing commitment to providing educational opportunities, with more than $500,000 in scholarships distributed in 2024. Notably, $160,000 was allocated to rural communities, including $40,000 awarded to women from Elko, Winnemucca, and Battle Mountain. These scholarships support women in rural Nevada pursuing degrees in essential fields such as nursing, biology, early childhood education, radiologic technology as well as trade and vocational disciplines.

This event shows what’s possible when a community comes together to support the next generation of leaders.”
Keynote speaker Kirstie Ennis, U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant (Ret.), adaptive athlete, and philanthropist, captivated the audience with her inspiring story of overcoming adversity to become a Paralympic athlete and advocate for disabled veterans. Ennis’s message of resilience and dedication moved attendees, reinforcing the value of persistence in the face of challenges.
Additionally, Great Basin College President Dr. Amber Donnelli addressed the transformative impact of education on women’s lives, particularly in rural areas, further highlighting the significance of NWF’s work in the region.
As the first of what will become an annual tradition, the Celebrating Achievement Dinner provided an opportunity for the community to come together in support of local women’s education and success. Ensuring that women in Northern Nevada continue to have access to opportunities for personal and professional growth.
