LAS VEGAS—Nevada Youth Soccer Association (NYSA) announced today that three local youth soccer teams have qualified for the 2024 United States Youth Soccer (USYS) National Championships taking place July 23-28 in Orlando, Florida. The teams that will represent Nevada during the championship series are: Las Vegas Surf Elite 64 09G, coached by Boris Gujic; Las Vegas Sports Academy U15 MLS Next 2009, coached by Erick Wynalda; and Las Vegas Diversity FC ’11 Elite, coached by Sergio Reyes-Rojas.
The USYS National Championships, presented by New York Life, provides approximately 185,000 players on over 10,000 teams from U.S. Youth Soccer State Associations the opportunity to showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation for 13U through 19U age brackets.
“We are so proud of the Nevada teams that qualified for the USYS National Championships,” said Jorge Sotelo, NYSA program manager. “There is a lot of tough competition in youth soccer, and we are excited to see our local teams continue on to compete on a national level.”
Las Vegas Surf Elite 64 09G earned a direct qualification to the 2024 National Championship series through the USYS National League P.R.O. Qualifier in Oceanside, Calif. in three straight victories. In round one it earned a 3-2 victory over Penn Alliance Select Elite 09; it defeated South Valley Surf SC 09G Elite 64 3-1 in round two; and finally, it earned a convincing 7-0 victory against East County Surf 09G Elite 64 in the third round.
Las Vegas Sports Academy U15 MLS Next 2009, had an unstoppable journey to reach the USYS National Championships. It had an undefeated 9-0 record in the Nevada State League (including playoffs) and went 2-0 at the Nevada State Cup. Its undefeated streak was uninterrupted at Far West Regional Championships in Hawaii, with the team going 6-0 (including four clean-sheet wins) all the way to the final, ultimately going 17-0 in the National Championship qualifying journey.
Las Vegas Diversity FC ’11 Elite had a near-perfect winning streak going to the National Championship series. The team went 7-2 in the Nevada State League, with one loss at the hands of Prime SC 11 Boys MDC, 2-1. It went 3-0 at Nevada State Cup, with two victories over Prime — one in group play, the other in the finals. The team continued to showcase their skills at the Far West Regionals in Hawaii, going 6-0, and ultimately facing Prime SC 11 Boys MDC in a true Nevada final, winning 6-1.
