JFSA’s Breast Cancer Support initiative is making a positive impact on Southern Nevadans, Nov. 19 event to help support further efforts
LAS VEGAS, NV – Low-income Southern Nevadans battling breast cancer are now receiving the mental health and financial support they need, thanks to a program initiated this summer by JFSA. The nonprofit’s Breast Cancer Support program is designed to address the specific needs of low-income individuals of all races, religions and backgrounds who are undergoing breast cancer treatment as well as their families.
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Southern Nevada. Oftentimes, individuals find themselves choosing between paying for treatment or paying rent, explains JFSA CEO, Ken Moskowitz. In addition, there may be a number of mental health struggles they and their families endure. JFSA’s Breast Cancer Support program addresses all of these concerns. Launched in the summer of 2023, the program already works with about two dozen individuals in Southern Nevada.
“This disease takes its toll on individuals and the entire family,” Moskowitz said. “The struggle comes from them trying to take care of their own health and the family’s needs. There’s a lot of pressure on everyone.”
To expand the program further, JFSA is hosting its Help, Hope, Support brunch fundraiser event in the Red Rock Ballroom of the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa, 11011 West Charleston Boulevard from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19.
The event will celebrate the rollout of the program and have entertainment from Jeff Leibow from the Las Vegas cast of the “Jersey Boys,” while honoring the education and breast cancer care advancements of Optum Breast Care and Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada.
