LAS VEGAS – January 16, 2025 – In strong support of those battling pediatric cancer and rare diseases, the Las Vegas Desert Dogs are recruiting Cure 4 The Kids Foundation (C4K) patients as honorary team captains for all home games.
This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity provides patients and their families with unprecedented access to the team and an experience that helps patients see beyond their difficult medical journeys.
Nine patients of Cure 4 The Kids Foundation, Southern Nevada’s only pediatric cancer and rare disease treatment center, will receive two-day “contracts” as an honorary team captain of the Las Vegas Desert Dogs. Each team captain is recognized at home games, is given the chance to participate in the pre-game news conference, and receives an official Las Vegas Desert Dogs jersey. Honorary team captains also spend one-on-one time with players on the field and in the locker room and are the first players to emerge from the tunnel during team introductions.

The groundbreaking idea to involve C4K patients during each home game is part of the Las Vegas Desert Dogs’ “Power of the Pack” initiative, which is in partnership with Las Vegas Honda Dealers to amplify support and strength for those within our community.
Pediatric cancer causes are especially close to Desert Dogs’ General Manager & Head Coach Shawn Williams, who lost his son, Tucker, to cancer in 2014. As a result, the Desert Dogs game on Saturday, February 1, 2025, is officially Tucker Out Lymphoma night, with proceeds from several initiatives going to pediatric oncology causes. All fans will receive rally towels and have the opportunity to bid on player-worn specialty jersey’s in Tucker’s favorite lime green and white colors. Additionally, teams connected to Shawn Williams, including the Buffalo Bandits and the Albany FireWolves, also support Williams’ efforts by participating in the Tucker Out Lymphoma Cup.
