North Las Vegas, Nev. – The City of North Las Vegas will be hosting a public groundbreaking ceremony for its Sparkle Park Project, marking a significant milestone in the city’s comprehensive park renovation plan. The ceremony will take place on March 18, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Valley View Park, located at 2000 Bennett St, North Las Vegas, Nevada 89030.
The Sparkle Park Project is part of a comprehensive renovation initiative aimed at reinvigorating every city park south of Craig Road. The initiative is set to entail significant updates including new splash pads, play equipment, dog parks, and upgraded lighting in each of the 20 parks included in the program.
“We believe that our parks are the gems of our neighborhoods, and we are dedicated to ensuring that they continue to be a vibrant recreation for our community,” said Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown. “The Sparkle Park Project represents a significant investment in our community, and we are excited to unveil the transformation of Valley View Park and other parks in the city.”
The City of North Las Vegas has allocated over $11 million in funding for the Sparkle Project which included funds from Fund 268, that will be executed through a short-term and long-term park improvement strategy. The short-term strategy will consist of a six to nine-month construction timeframe with construction commencing shortly after the March 18 groundbreaking ceremony.
Construction will be concentrated on eight parks, one in each ward, along with both Tot lot parks and an additional park in the two southern wards. The long-term portion of the strategy will start simultaneously with the first eight parks but will require more lead time due to each park’s unique characteristics and design.
Fund 268 has been instrumental in investing in a water conservation plan, modernizing irrigation systems, upgrading park lighting to energy-efficient LED lighting, enhancing the city’s public safety camera system, and rehabilitating existing parks, pools, recreational facilities, and community centers over the past 29 years.
To facilitate resident input, the City of North Las Vegas has established a dedicated online survey where residents can provide feedback and suggest improvements for their local parks that they would like to see. “We are eager to hear from our residents about their vision for their neighborhood parks,” added Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown. “Together, we can create spaces that promote health, wellness, and community connection for generations to come.”
The first set of parks to receive renovations will include Ward 1 Rotary Tot Lot, Brooks Tot Lot, College Park, Joe Kneip, Ward 2 Valley View Park, Prentiss Walker Park and Pool, Ward 3 Flores Park, and Ward 4 Gold Crest Park.
Valley View Park, established in 1965 and the location at which the groundbreaking ceremony will take place, is a 5-acre park that currently offers playgrounds, swings, a baseball diamond, open space, a basketball court, BBQ grills, picnic tables, walkway paths, and gazebos. The City is eager to receive community input to understand the desired upgrades for Valley View Park.
