The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents is pleased to welcome experienced CPA and former associate vice president of financial services at UNLV, Chris Viton, to NSHE as vice chancellor and CFO. Viton holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Penn State University and a master’s degree in finance from Rutgers University. Originally from New Jersey, Viton has worked in the finance industry from the beginning of his career. He joins NSHE as an accomplished and effective decision-maker and strategic thinker and brings with him years of experience and leadership in finance.
As the vice chancellor for budget and finance at NSHE, Viton will be responsible for coordinating and addressing fiscal issues related to statewide higher education. He will serve as a key member of the Chancellors’ cabinet and will be responsible for conveying national issues related to higher education financing to the Board and the campus business officers. Some of his other duties include chairing the Business Officer’s Council, leading the NSHE biennial budget process and managing the treasury.
“We are excited to name Chris Viton as vice chancellor of budget and finance and chief financial officer for NSHE,” said Patricia “Patty” Charlton, interim chancellor to the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents. “The role of CFO is a highly technical leadership position that requires knowledge of finance and its processes, and of current events that impact higher education. Chris brings to the role a rich professional history in finance and leadership skills that extend beyond his desk. He leads people and leads them well. We believe he is the right man for the job and will serve to push Nevada’s system of higher education to new heights.”
Viton and his wife of 34 years, Pam, have two adult children who are CCSD graduates. When he is not working, he enjoys mountain biking, running and endurance racing.
