On Thursday, June 5, Green Our Planet continued to grow its impact as the local nonprofit organization officially broke ground on its first-ever headquarters, referred to as the Green Our Planet Compassionate Gardens, in East Las Vegas.
The headquarters groundbreaking welcomed special remarks from Ciara Byrne, co-founder and CEO of Green Our Planet, Kim MacQuarrie, co-founder of Green Our Planet and CEO of Green Our Planet Studios, Dr. Gard Jameson, philanthropist and UNLV professor, and Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick.
Located in the heart of East Las Vegas, the Compassionate Gardens will serve as a hub for hands-on environmental education, food access, and community enrichment. The space will feature a hydroponics lab where people can learn to grow food with 80% less water and an outdoor classroom that will provide lessons on how to grow produce in their home gardens. The headquarters will also include a community garden where people can take home fresh produce and a teaching kitchen for preparing healthy meals. Once complete, local students will have access to a film studio and classroom where they can participate in hands-on learning and where educational videos will be produced and shared with schools across the country.
“We are so thrilled to break ground on what will become a center of learning, sustainability and growth,” said Ciara Byrne, co-founder and CEO of Green Our Planet. “The Green Our Planet Compassionate Gardens will allow us to deepen our impact in the community, by giving people a place to connect with nature, science and each other.”
The project has been made possible by a grant secured by Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick, along with funding from Dr. Gard Jameson and Dr. Florence Jameson.
Renovations of the Green Our Planet Compassionate Gardens are set to wrap up by the end of 2025, with a grand opening ceremony to follow.
