Plumas Bank, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Plumas Bancorp, is increasing its staff capacity to provide Small Business Administration (SBA) loans in 2025 and beyond. As a preferred SBA Lender, Plumas Bank has built an SBA program that has helped hundreds of entrepreneurs across seven western states access capital for business acquisitions, expansions, equipment and real estate.
Managed and directed by Rodney Borges, Senior Vice President, Plumas Bank has facilitated nearly $1 billion in SBA 7(a) loans since 2007 when Borges was recruited to build the program at Plumas Bank. With a focus on high-touch service and practical lending solutions, all moving at the speed that Plumas Bank’s customers need to be successful in growing their businesses, Borges predicts that the SBA program will continue to grow in both reach and impact based on current market conditions.
“The current business landscape and recent SBA program changes make these loans very useful for clients looking to expand their businesses,” said Borges, who has overseen the department for nearly 20 years. “Our SBA team at Plumas Bank pride ourselves on common-sense lending, quick and transparent communication, and working with borrowers and brokers to get to ‘yes’ when other lenders can’t or won’t. We’ve built a reputation for clarity, integrity, and execution.”
Plumas Bank has recently expanded its SBA lending footprint to Utah and central California with the addition of two new team members. Jason Hutsenpiller, who brings over two decades of SBA lending leadership and a strong track record of closing high-volume loans across the West, is based in South Jordan, Utah. Lindsay Waylett is located in central California and has twenty years of experience in SBA lending and is a graduate of the Pacific Coast Banking School.
“With SBA lending, you’re not just financing a business, you’re helping create jobs and economic opportunity in communities,” said Hutsenpiller. “Plumas Bank’s model of personalized service and internal expertise gives small and middle-market businesses the best chance to succeed. I’m excited to join this experienced and nimble team to power more businesses across the region.”
“Joining Plumas Bank will allow me to continue facilitating SBA loans and working hand-in-hand with clients to achieve their growth goals,” added Waylett. “I’m looking forward to leveraging my experience and learning from other seasoned SBA professionals on the Plumas Bank team to help our clients go big on their business goals.”
Unlike many national lenders, Plumas Bank services its SBA loans from start to finish, providing a consistent and responsive experience for clients throughout the life of the loan. With the cumbersome bureaucratic process that slows decision-making, Plumas Bank’s team is small enough to be agile and client-focused. The bank’s SBA team focuses on working with business brokers, commercial real estate agents and financial professionals to identify qualified borrowers and deliver customized loan solutions. Plumas Bank’s SBA program serves both clients across California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Colorado and Utah.
“We often say we do the hard work upfront so we can deliver a ‘fast yes’ and avoid a ‘slow no,’” added Borges. “Even if we can’t help today, we’ll help prospective borrowers understand what they need to do to qualify for a loan in the future and we’ve seen many return to us down the road better prepared and ready to succeed.”
With over 34 years of experience in SBA lending and a team of industry veterans—including longtime producers Robert Porter and Kelly Cheney—Plumas Bank continues to stand out in a crowded field for its service-first approach, nimble credit philosophy, and deep expertise.
