RENO, Nevada — As students in Nevada gear up for the school year, Nevada Dairy Farmers has launched a campaign to highlight the important role dairy plays in supporting strong bodies and sharp minds. Anchored by powerful imagery and inspiring voices from Nevada university athletes, the campaign is designed to celebrate dairy as a natural performance fuel, on and off the court.
Featured are University of Nevada, Las Vegas basketball player Jacob Bannarbie and University of Nevada, Reno track and field athlete Jasmine Harris. These athletes represent the commitment, drive and discipline it takes to succeed, and the value of smart fueling choices like dairy.
“This campaign is about more than just back-to-school, it’s about helping athletes and students perform their best with real, wholesome fuel,” said Libby Lovig, RDN, LD, general manager at Nevada Dairy Farmers. “Dairy isn’t just delicious, affordable and convenient, but it’s powerful. It offers the natural nutrition people need to stay strong, energized and focused.”
Today’s students are more health-conscious and digitally connected than ever. In fact, 77% of Gen Z say being physically active is important to them, and 56% exercise at least three times a week, often choosing shorter, on-the-go workouts that align with their fast-paced routines (Source: YPulse, 2023). As a result, convenient, nutrient-dense options like dairy are well-positioned to meet their needs. From portable yogurt cups to post-workout chocolate milk, dairy delivers both performance benefits and practicality to help reinforce positive habits for the next generation of athletes and active individuals.
Whether you’re a student athlete, a weekend runner or someone simply looking for healthier food options, dairy provides essential nutrients that support strength, stamina and recovery:
-
Complete protein: Dairy contains all 13 essential amino acids needed for muscle repair and growth.
-
Bone health: Milk is one of the best natural sources of calcium and vitamin D.
-
Gut support: Fermented dairy products like yogurt and kefir contain probiotics that promote digestive health.
-
Hydration and recovery: Dairy delivers electrolytes, hydration and nutrients that help refuel after physical activity.
-
Real and simple: Dairy is naturally nutrient-dense and typically has fewer additives than many alternatives.
-
Culinary versatility: From smoothies and snacks to cooking and baking, dairy brings flavor, texture and nutrition to the table.
Low-fat chocolate milk remains the official beverage of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) as a delicious and effective way for athletes of all ages to refuel with protein, electrolytes and essential nutrients after practice or competition.
“Nutrition is everything when you’re pushing your body every day,” said Harris. “I’ve always relied on dairy to recover after races or get ready for practice. It’s real, it’s easy and it helps me stay at my best.”
The campaign will appear across digital platforms, especially in Washoe and Clark counties, and is part of Nevada Dairy Farmers’ larger mission to support dairy producers while promoting the value of real dairy products for real life performance.
