LAS VEGAS – Project 150 is distributing 4,000 holiday meal boxes during Thanksgiving and Christmas to help feed homeless, displaced and disadvantaged local high school students and their families.
So far this year, the Las Vegas homegrown nonprofit has served more than 6,800 local high school students with food, clothing, hygiene items and school supplies through its distribution program and its Betty’s Boutique.
“We’re stepping up to ensure students and their families have meals during the holidays. The need is always great, but even more so during the holiday season,” said Kelli Kristo, executive director of Project 150. “This is a great way to feed it forward, and we’d like to ask the community for their continued support.”
A donation of just $25 provides a meal that feeds a family of four. Each meal box contains a full Thanksgiving feast, including turkey, stuffing, vegetables and potatoes.
Starting in November, volunteers will begin preparing meal boxes at Project 150’s facility at 3600 N. Rancho Drive. The meal boxes will then be distributed Nov. 18 to more than 70 high schools that Project 150 serves across Southern Nevada.
Project 150 plans to distribute 2,000 meal boxes during Thanksgiving and another 2,000 before Christmas. All monetary donations are welcome. Gift cards to grocery stores are also being accepted and can a be dropped off at Project 150. Donations for the holiday meal program are being accepted through the end of the year. Project 150 is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization, founded in December 2011 by local businessmen Don Purdue and Patrick Spargur. The two heard about 150 homeless high school students at Rancho High School in Las Vegas who were in need of support over the Christmas break. Since that time, Project 150 has expanded and now serves more than 6,300 registered and non-registered homeless, displaced and disadvantaged high school students in more than 80 schools in Nevada.
