greenUP!, a pioneering 501(c)(3) non-profit committed to environmental education and sustainable business practices, is proud to announce the launch of the Green Box To-Go (GBTG) reusable takeout container program at Reno Public Market (RPM). This initiative is an integral part of the Green Dining Nevada (GDN) network, a statewide effort supporting local restaurants in their sustainability journey.
“Reno Public Market is proud to champion this initiative with our Food Hall tenants, making it easier for our community to make eco-friendly choices,” said Mike Mac Millan, general manager of the Food Hall at Reno Public Market. “The Green Box To-Go program is a key step in our commitment to sustainable practices, supported by our vendors who have worked hard to achieve green certification. Our partnership with greenUP! reflects our shared dedication to environmental responsibility and community well-being.”
The GBTG program offers a practical solution to reduce single-use waste by providing reusable containers for customers who opt-in. Participating RPM vendors will be equipped to offer this environmentally friendly option, empowering the community to make choices that contribute to waste reduction.
“We’re thrilled to partner with RPM to bring the Green Box To-Go program to local food lovers,” said Barbara Winter de Melo Lemos, Northern Nevada Coordinator at greenUP!. “This initiative not only helps decrease single-use waste but also supports restaurants in promoting sustainable practices and educating their patrons.”
How the Program Works
Customers can participate in the GBTG program by downloading greenUP!’s GreenBox To-Go app and choosing a plan: a two-box option for $20 or a four-box option for $40, both of which are one-time fees and eligible for tax deductions. To use the service, customers simply click “borrow” in the app, select the number of boxes, scan the restaurant’s QR code, and show the confirmation screen to the cashier. Used boxes are returned within two weeks to any participating restaurant, where a drop-off container QR code registers the return.
Benefits for Restaurants and Customers
All participating RPM vendors are part of the Green Dining Nevada network and undergo a comprehensive three-day waste audit to identify their current waste levels and greenhouse gas emissions. This baseline assessment helps pinpoint areas for improvement and guides each restaurant toward more resource-efficient practices. RPM members currently include The Noodle Station, Burger NV, Mediterranean Bae, Pasta La Vista, V’s Churros, Cuzco Peruvian Cuisine, and Chick-a-Boom.
Promotional Offer
To encourage early adoption, greenUP! will offer a $10-off promo code (GREENRPM) for new RPM users signing up for the GreenBox To-Go service. This initiative aims to boost engagement and spread awareness of sustainable dining practices.
