Reno Public Market (RPM) is named the Redevelopment of the Year by the national 2023 CoStar Impact Awards. RPM, a major retail project with one of the largest food halls on the West Coast, was chosen as the winner by a panel of outside judges who are professionals in their field and know the Reno-Tahoe area. The judges stated that RPM is a “wildly impactful retail redevelopment for Northern Nevada” and deserved this prestigious honor.
“We are pleased to hear that Reno Public Market has won this honor,” said Doug Wiele, Founder of Foothill Partners. “We pride ourselves on being the South anchor of Midtown Reno, offering all things local with merchants from the area, musicians, and food vendors with Northern Nevada ties.”
RPM, formerly the retail shopping center Shopper’s Square, has been owned and operated by The Casazza family for over 60 years. The Casazzas partnered with developer Foothill Partners and real estate manager Loja Real Estate in 2019 to begin revitalization efforts of the shopping space for Midtown Reno.
“It’s incredible to see my family’s history and business thriving as Reno Public Market and I am honored that the project was named Redevelopment of the Year by the CoStar Impact Awards,” said Rick Casazza, partner in Reno Public Market LLC and Senior Vice President of Colliers International. “I remember when my family broke ground on Shopper’s Square many years ago. Now, not only do I get to see my family’s business get this second life as RPM, but my family and locals get to enjoy the space for years to come.”
Construction on the property began in September 2019. To begin revitalization efforts, Foothill Partners and Loja Real Estate teamed up with Frame Architecture, a Reno-based architecture firm with extensive experience in commercial architecture design. Together, they brought about the design for the new Reno Public Market: a community hub encapsulating Midtown Reno with shopping, food, and the arts.
RPM officially opened the food hall to the general public in January 2023, following a soft opening that brought in more than 12,000 visitors to the 25,000 square foot food hall. The food hall currently has 15 food vendors with each vendor specializing in a variety of cuisines, along with a central bar, Honey Bar, serving creative drinks and cocktails. The Live at Faye’s stage offers patrons live music from local musicians every week. Aside from the food hall and live stage, RPM has four retail merchants including Far Out, Maker’s Paradise, Zawadisha, Wyld Market Collective. Later this Fall, long-time Reno staple Junkee Clothing Exchange will be moving into RPM.
