Roseman University Launches $10 Million Scholarship Campaign to Support College of Medicine

Roseman University of Health Sciences officially launched its $10 million scholarship campaign to support medical students at its new College of Medicine during a celebration on May 29 at Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa. The “Rhythm of the Future” campaign launch event brought together community leaders, philanthropists, and healthcare advocates to support Nevada’s newest medical school.

The campaign aims to reduce financial barriers for medical students while addressing Nevada’s critical physician shortage. The state currently ranks 48th nationally in physician-to-patient ratio, creating an urgent need for more healthcare providers.

“This is more than a campaign. It is a movement of generosity, of vision, and of shared responsibility,” said Bryan Lindsey, campaign chair and member of Roseman’s Board of Trustees. “The future of healthcare in Nevada depends on what we build together, and this scholarship fund will ensure that talent—not financial status—determines who gets to become a doctor.”

The campaign received significant early momentum with major gifts totaling more than $3 million, including a transformational $2 million commitment from the Engelstad Family Foundation and a $500,000 gift from an anonymous donor.

Dr. Pedro “Joe” Greer Jr., founding dean of Roseman University College of Medicine emphasized the urgent need for more physicians in Nevada during the launch event. “Nevada is home to a community of dedicated, skilled physicians who work tirelessly to serve our growing and diverse communities. Their commitment is the foundation of our healthcare system, and it is what makes the future of medicine in our state so promising. Yet, even with their extraordinary efforts, Nevada continues to face a significant shortage,” said Greer. “We are 2,500 physicians short of the national average. That’s not just a gap. That’s a canyon. At Roseman, we are committed to increasing the number of physicians and elevating what it means to be one. We are training doctors who will not only treat illness but who will fight inequity and heal entire systems.”

Roseman’s College of Medicine distinguishes itself through innovative community-based learning programs, including GENESIS and EMPOWERED, which place students directly in underserved communities from their first day of medical school.

The scholarship campaign coincides with Roseman University’s 25th anniversary. Founded in Henderson in 1999 by Drs. Harry Rosenberg, Renee Coffman, and Charles Lacy with just $15,000 of personal investment, the university has grown to include colleges of Pharmacy, Nursing, Dental Medicine, Graduate Studies, and now Medicine.

The campaign offers flexible giving opportunities, with contributions directly support student scholarships, covering tuition, fees, educational materials, and essential learning experiences.

“We have not traditionally asked for support like this, but with the launch of the College of Medicine, we are required to look boldly at how we mitigate student debt and remove barriers to the education Nevada so urgently needs,” said Dr. Geena Jeffries Mattox, Vice President for Philanthropy & Alumni Relations at Roseman University.
