The Governor’s Office of Workforce Innovation’s (GOWINN) SANDI grant and NCLab, a Reno-based supplier of vocational training, have announced a joint initiative that will provide a pool of new talent at a time when Nevada manufacturers are in urgent need of workers with automation skills.
This initiative will help Nevada workers with limited earning potential and growth move up into 21st century automation-rich manufacturing jobs.
Through NCLab’s Computational On-Ramp training program, enrollees learn foundational hard skills that include workplace math, working with data, computer programming, and 3D spatial skills; and soft skills that include professional communication, time management, critical and logical thinking, problem solving, perseverance, and adaptability.
The cost of the training is paid for by the SANDI grant for vetted applicants.
“The program enables enrollees to reskill or upskill into the new economy,” states Leonard Lafrance, NCLab President. “And Nevada manufacturers, who are seeking employees, get access to people who are job ready, upon completion of the training.”
