LAS VEGAS – February 11, 2025 – Sol-Up, Las Vegas’ premier energy solution and conservation company, is honoring its first Las Vegas customer for their commitment to clean and renewable energy by providing them with a new solar rooftop system at no cost.
Founded in 2009 in Las Vegas, Sol-Up has installed more than 15,000 residential and commercial solar rooftop systems, helping owners dramatically reduce their energy use and costs, while also reducing the need for energy companies to use fossil fuels to generate power for Las Vegas’ growing population.
The Goodman family purchased their 4 kW system from Sol-Up in 2009. Over the past 15 years, the system has substantially reduced the amount of money the Goodmans spend on powering their home, air conditioner, and hot tub.
“In 15 years, we’ve never had an electric bill over $100, which may sound unbelievable in light of the Las Vegas heat, but it’s true,” said homeowner Mark Goodman. “Even when you include the $18.50 basic utility charge from NV Energy, which everyone connected to the grid has to pay, we’ve never exceeded $100. Installing a solar rooftop system is one of our best decisions.”
“The Goodmans are a prime example of how solar energy can significantly benefit homeowners financially over extended periods of time if served by an honest and reliable contractor who puts customer interest first,” said Frank Rieger, CEO and founder of Sol-Up. “As our very first customer from 2009 with 15 years of uninterrupted solar power generation we want to show them our appreciation by providing them with a new more powerful solar system so they can continue to profit from low utility bills while enjoying their jacuzzi and keeping their home cold in the valley’s rising summer temperatures”.
Nevada’s robust Net Metering Program provides energy credits to solar rooftop customers like the Goodmans when they are able to export excess solar-produced power they don’t need—typically during mild weather months. The excess power flows from their home back onto the grid, where other electricity customers can use it. Combined with the power produced by their own system, excess power credits also help reduce Goodman’s electricity bill.
The Goodmans’ highest electric bill in 15 years occurred in July 2024, the same month the Las Vegas area experienced its first 120-degree day. During that month, the couple used $75.84 worth of electricity. With the addition of the $18.50 mandatory NV Energy basic utility charge, the total was $94.34. On a yearly basis, the Goodmans estimate they spend about $750 per year for electricity.
Due to technological advances and new efficiencies in solar technology, the Goodmans’ new system consists of 10 Axitec solar panels instead of the 15 required by the older system. Sol-Up also provided the Goodmans with a Tesla 7.6 inverter to convert the direct current (DC) electricity from the panels into alternating current (AC) electricity, which can be used in the home.
