Las Vegas-based nonprofit, Solutions of Change, will host its 2nd annual YOUth Wellness Summit on Saturday, May 20 at the Parkdale Recreation Center, 3200 Ferndale Street, in Las Vegas, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. The event is free to the public and welcomes all local youth from ages 13 to 17.
“We are here to create a space to assist with information and tools about mental health concerns showing up in our youth today,” said Lakiesha Oliver, program manager for Solutions of Change. “Our goal is to raise awareness and offer support to promote positive well-being for this generation of youth who will change the world.”
The program will cover subjects related to mental health like:
- Five love languages for teens: How to communicate wants and needs in relationships
- Cultural competency: Exploring cultural awareness and the effects of culture on mental health
- Social media Influence: How to represent ourselves online truthfully while combating negative aspects of social media
- Team building and social skills: Creating practices that garner connectedness and skills for working with peers and adults
- Parental/caretaker influence: Learning to better connect with parents/guardians through this difficult stage of development
Solutions of Change helps at-risk minority and underserved populations–who due to financial or social burdens cannot access mental health services–find the care they need. Space is limited for this free educational enrichment opportunity; reservations are required.
