Two-day program will be held July 12-13 at Nehemiah Ministries and the CSN North Las Vegas campus
In honor of Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, Las Vegas-based, Solutions of Change, will host its 7th annual Healing to Health conference. The two-day event will be held July 12-13 at Nehemiah Ministries, 3606 North Rancho Drive, #144, and the Tyrone Thompson Student Union at the CSN North Las Vegas campus, 3200 E. Cheyenne Avenue.
Dinisha Mingo, who launched the event, said, “We do it in July because July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month. People in the faith based community are a minority in terms of being served with mental health challenges, due to stigma.”
She added that physical, spiritual and mental health all coincide.
“We also have the workshops: whether journaling or a movement workshop or mindfulness or art… things that you can do daily, on your own, to help improve your mental and hopefully, spiritual wellness.”
This year’s conference, titled “Identity Confirmed” aims to shed light on the power of being rooted in faith while actively working on mental health. Healing to Health starts with a prayer and worship event on Friday, July 12 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Nehemiah Ministries. The Saturday full-day conference, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Tyrone Thompson Student Union, will include keynote speakers, workshops and breakout sessions that cover mental health coping skills, faith-based perspectives, and more. This year, the event will accommodate up to 30 youths (ages 13-17) and 30 Spanish-only/Spanish-preference attendees. Breakfast and lunch will be served.
“The event is for everyone. We welcome community members of all faiths, clergy, mental health professionals, anyone interested in learning more about the positive impact that joining our mental health with our faith can have,” said Lakiesha Oliver, Solutions of Change’s deputy executive director.
Event keynote speakers and session leaders include:
