Special Olympics Nevada (SONV) is proud to announce the promotion of Harry Mong III to vice president of operations. With 25 years of experience in the industry, Mong is set to take on this pivotal leadership role to further the organization’s mission of creating inclusive opportunities for children and adults with intellectual disabilities through health, education, leadership development and sports.Mong has been an integral part of Special Olympics Nevada since 2009, holding leadership positions including regional sports director and, most recently, regional senior director of programs.
In his new role, Mong will oversee and streamline the day-to-day activities of the nonprofit, ensuring programs run efficiently and resources are utilized effectively. His responsibilities will include operational oversight, financial management, resource allocation, compliance, process improvement, team leadership, collaboration, reporting and program oversight.
“Harry’s dedication and leadership have been instrumental in the success of our programs,” said President and CEO of Special Olympics Nevada Terrence Thornton. “We are proud to promote him to the vice president of operations position and see what new heights he takes our program to.”
Mong holds a master’s degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University, Irvine, and a bachelor’s degree in education from Temple University. Beyond his professional contributions, he is actively involved in his community, serving as a volunteer coach for youth basketball leagues and as a middle school varsity girls basketball coach at Amplus Academy. He is also a member of the Hawai’i Pacific University Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) Las Vegas Advisory Board.
