LAS VEGAS (January 24, 2025) – On January 23, The Just One Project launched Nevada’s first Mobile Grocery Store which will offer healthy, low-cost groceries to Nevadans living in food deserts where access to fresh and nutritious produce is limited. An expansion of the innovative Groceries on the Go program, the Mobile Grocery Store marks the latest stage of a multi-year collaboration between The Just One Project and UnitedHealthcare Health Plan of Nevada Medicaid, which has provided more than 664,400 pounds of food to over 17,000 community members since 2021.
Joined by city officials, community members, volunteers and staff, the event kicked off with opening remarks by emcee Rachel Skidmore, Director of the Office of Engagement for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Office and board member of The Just One Project. During the event, attendees heard from Brooke Neubauer, Founder and CEO of The Just One Project and Tony Sanchez, Executive Vice President of Business and Development and External Relations at NV Energy, along with elected officials including Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown, Mayor of the City of North Las Vegas, and Councilman Isaac Barron of Ward 1 in the City of North Las Vegas, discussing the impact the program will have on the community.
Following the warm remarks, attendees gathered in front of the North Las Vegas VA Medical Center as Neubauer took the stage to unveil the Mobile Grocery Store. Greeted by cheers and applause, the Mobile Grocery Store opened its doors for the first time, revealing a full-service shopping experience inside of a fully renovated school bus generously donated by the Clark County School District. The Mobile Grocery Store is powered by NV Energy Foundation and features a top-to-bottom transformation complete with refrigeration and temperature control. Inside, customers will be able to select and purchase fresh food without leaving their community or paying retail mark ups.
“Everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy groceries, regardless of where they live. Bringing affordable options to community members who don’t always have direct access to these food items is so important,” said Tony Sanchez, Executive Vice President, Business Development and External Relations at NV Energy and board member of the NV Energy Foundation. “NV Energy Foundation and our team of volunteers are proud to be a part of this effort and make a positive impact together. By supporting charitable causes important to our customers, the NV Energy Foundation continues to partner with nonprofits in our communities working to make a meaningful impact.”
The Mobile Grocery Store also marks the beginning of a new collaboration between The Just One Project and the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) that will address food insecurity for veterans in both rural and urban areas by increasing access to fresh food and groceries
“The Just One Project is dedicated to closing the gap in access to fresh and affordable whole foods. The Mobile Grocery Store will play a vital role in providing essential support to food deserts in Las Vegas,” said Brooke Neubauer, founder and CEO of The Just One Project. “We are grateful to our partners at UnitedHealthcare Health Plan of Nevada Medicaid and NV Energy Foundation, who share our vision and commitment to ensuring fresh food is accessible to everyone.”
