The Nevada Dairy Farmers & Dairy Council of Nevada is proud to announce that it has awarded $15,000 in scholarship money to three Agriculture Scholarship recipients. These applicants have shown outstanding dedication to the agriculture industry, commitment to a future in agriculture, and expressed passion for continuing agricultural services in our communities.
Agriculture scholarship recipients Aspen Johnson, Aimee Thompson, and Jackson Dahl will each receive $5,000 to help them start or continue their education in the agricultural field.
“We are thrilled to be awarding three applicants a scholarship to continue their journey in the agriculture field,” said Libby Lovig, General Manager of the Nevada Dairy Farmers. “This was the first year we launched this scholarship, and we’re ecstatic with the stellar applications we received. It is a true honor to award this money to the recipients for their future in agriculture, and we look forward to seeing them thrive in their education and beyond.”
Aspen Johnson is the agriculture instructor and FFA advisor at Churchill County High School in Fallon, NV. She was awarded our continuing education scholarship, specifically for teachers pursuing continuing education credits in agriculture. Aspen has a master of Arts in Teaching and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. We are so grateful for her commitment to teaching local youth about the role agriculture plays in their lives and our communities.
Aimee Thompson graduated from Tonopah High School in 2018. She continued her education first at the University of Nevada, Reno where she earned her B.S. in Veterinary Science, then joined the WIMU Veterinary Degree Program to earn her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine starting at Utah State University and now continuing to completion at Washington State University. Aimee’s dedication, drive and commitment to provide veterinary care to rural areas is greatly needed to support local farmers and the agriculture industry.
Jackson Dahl is set to attend BYU-Idaho starting Fall 2023 to pursue an undergraduate degree in Ag Business. As a sixth-generation rancher, Jackson plans to continue his family’s ranch after completing his education. He’s an enterprising young man who’s balanced his work on the ranch with his education, extracurriculars in FFA, and even a small dairy business raising leppies. Generational farming and ranching is the foundation of Nevada’s agricultural community and it brings us great joy to support the next generation.
