The Nevada Treasury honored the winning students of its fifth annual “What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up” art contest during a private reception held at The Windmill Library on Wednesday, December 17.
The contest was open to students from pre-K to 12th grade statewide from August 11 to October 13, and encouraged them to create original artwork depicting what they want to be when they grow up. During the reception, attendees enjoyed the gallery of award-winning artwork from students across northern and southern Nevada. The public is encouraged to view students’ artwork as it will remain on display at the library through February 17, 2026.
Treasurer Zach Conine stated, “This contest reflects the potential and aspirations of Nevada’s youth. By supporting their creativity and helping families save for college, we are building a stronger, brighter future for our state. Education and opportunity go hand in hand, and we are proud to play a role in that journey.”
Winners from all grade levels, along with their families and schools, were invited and recognized for their outstanding work by Nevada State Treasurer Zach Conine and Nevada State Deputy Treasurer of College Savings Dr. Tya Mathis-Coleman. During the ceremony, first place winners were awarded $1,000, second place winners were awarded $500, and third place winners were awarded $250. All prize money was awarded in the form of 529 college savings accounts. In addition to the students’ awards, Art Specialist Wendy C. from Dr. Beverly S. Mathis Elementary School was also recognized as the teacher with the most art contest submissions.
“We are honored to celebrate the creativity and dedication of every student who participated in this year’s Art Contest. Each piece of art reflects imagination and the promise of future opportunities. At the Nevada State Treasury, we believe we’re investing in more than education, we’re investing in the bright futures these students represent,” said Dr. Tya Mathis-Coleman, Deputy Treasurer of College Savings.
