The Nevada Treasury announced that it is now accepting applications for the 2026 Kenny C. Guinn Memorial Scholarship, which awards a total of four $5,000 scholarships each to two college students in Northern Nevada and two in Southern Nevada who are working towards becoming educators, with the intent of teaching in Nevada following graduation.
The Kenny C. Guinn Memorial Scholarship was created in 2011 and has provided scholarships each year to exemplary Nevada college students working to advance public education in the State.
“The Kenny C. Guinn Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of Governor Guinn by supporting Nevada students who are committed to shaping the future of education in our state,” said Dr. Tya Mathis-Coleman, Deputy Treasurer for College Savings. “By investing in these future educators, we are strengthening Nevada’s classrooms and ensuring that our children have access to dedicated, high-quality teachers for years to come.”
To be eligible to receive the scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

Have received or met the requirements for the Millennium Scholarship.

Must be entering their senior year of study at either the University of Nevada Reno, the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Great Basin College, Nevada State University, Western Governors University, Touro University, or any other college or university in Nevada that awards a bachelor’s degree in education.

Have a declared major leading to licensure in elementary education or secondary education.

Maintain a college grade point average of not less than 3.5 on a 4.0 grading scale or a commensurate level of academic achievement provided to and verified by the College Savings Board for students enrolled at an educational institution that does not calculate the grade point average.

Must have a written, stated commitment to teaching in Nevada following graduation.

Have a demonstrated record of community service.
To be considered for the scholarship award, students must apply through the Nevada Treasury by Monday, April 6, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (PST).
