The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) is pleased to announce the promotion of Tillery Williams to director of community engagement, equity, and inclusion. Williams previously served as the senior fiscal and policy analyst for NSHE. As director, Williams will be responsible for building inclusive learning environments while fostering strong relationships with diverse stakeholder groups to promote the NSHE mission across Nevada.
“We are thrilled to have Tillery Williams as the new director of community engagement, equity, and inclusion,” said Byron Brooks, chairman of the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents.“ Tillery’s extensive experience in policy analysis, community engagement, and leadership are invaluable as we work toward promoting diversity and inclusion across all of our institutions.”
Before joining NSHE, Williams worked for the Metropolitan King County Council in Seattle, Washington, as a principal legislative policy analyst. Williams conducted qualitative and quantitative analysis of policy issues, assisted with the development and implementation of Council-directed initiatives, and participated in the Council’s fiscal processes by analyzing budgets and financial plans. Williams also served as a member of the Council’s African American Affinity Group where their main goal was to provide a safe space for staff to engage, build community, and make connections throughout organizations.
Williams holds a bachelor’s in criminology from Auburn University, a master’s in public administration from the University of Idaho, Moscow, and a doctorate in political science from the University of Idaho, Moscow. Williams is also a member of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity alumna. In 2017, Williams was a graduate of Leadership Reno-Sparks, a program of the Reno-Sparks Chamber of Commerce which identifies and develops current and future leaders through a comprehensive program designed to increase knowledge and awareness of the issues and challenges facing the community.
