Travel North Tahoe Nevada (TNTNV) has selected Fortress Construction, Inc., a local full-service design and build firm operating since 2003 based in Incline Village, Nevada, to lead the anticipated remodel of TNTNV’s Welcome Center, reflecting the organization’s commitment to reinvesting visitor-generated dollars back into the local community.
TNTNV is also partnering with Smith Design Group, a local Incline Village-based architectural firm operating since 1989 led by Dale Smith. Smith Design Group will oversee all architectural design work, manage the permitting process, and provide construction oversight throughout the project.
The Welcome Center renovation is a long-planned capital improvement project funded through previously allocated capital funds. By selecting local contractors and working with local subcontractors and labor, TNTNV is supporting the regional workforce and keeping tourism dollars circulating within the North Lake Tahoe economy. This project also aligns with TNTNV’s mission to responsibly manage and promote North Lake Tahoe while investing in projects that serve visitors and residents alike.
“Choosing local contractors like Fortress Construction and Smith Design Group for this legacy project was a deliberate choice as we continue to reinvest funds that serve our visitors and residents while supporting our local economy,” said Andy Chapman, President and CEO of Travel North Tahoe Nevada. “Visitor-generation funds should directly benefit our community whenever possible, and what better way to do that than with companies who understand this region, employ local workers, and are working with local subcontractors to bring this vision to life.”
“Fortress Construction, Inc. is honored to have been selected to work on this legacy project in our hometown,” said Rob Laurie, Partner at Fortress Construction. “My business partner, John Albrecht, and I both grew up in Incline and were here when this building first opened more than 35 years ago. To now be part of a project that will enhance this community asset for generations to come is truly special.”
“Smith Design Group is proud to partner with Travel North Tahoe Nevada and Fortress Construction on the Welcome Center improvements,” said Dale E. Smith, AIA, Principal of Smith Group. “As the gateway to North Lake Tahoe since 1989, it’s an honor to support its next chapter and create a space that respects its legacy while serving visitors and residents for years to come.”
Originally built in 1989, the Welcome Center has long served as a community gateway, serving over an average of 50,000 visitors each year. This remodel is designed to transform the Welcome Center by improving functionality and enhancing the array of services offered to visitors and residents to continue the Welcome Center’s role as an essential community hub for decades to come. The newly renovated space is anticipated to reopen in late May 2026.
During construction, TNTNV’s Welcome Center and administrative offices have temporarily relocated to 937 Tahoe Boulevard, Suite 150. The temporary Welcome Center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with signage directing guests to the new location.
