LAS VEGAS – To prepare themselves for present and future fights against cancer, doctors from the Women’s Cancer Center of Nevada attended the 2024 NRG International Summer Meeting in Denver.
The meeting, hosted by Philadelphia-based NRG Oncology, ran July 25 to July 27. As they attended, the Nevada doctors learned about treatment advances and research, both clinical and translational, for gynecologic cancers. The American Cancer Society estimated that in 2023 in the United States, physicians diagnosed 114,810 new cases of gynecologic cancer and 34,020 women died from gynecologic cancers.
At the Denver summit, the Women’s Cancer Center of Nevada cohort discussed current drug and treatment trials for ovarian, cervical and endometrial cancers; four oncologists from the center focus on these. The cohort also attended breakout sessions on better treating ovarian and uterine cancer and bladder prolapse; one doctor from the center focuses on studying bladder prolapse.
The center is running trials for several treatments involving up to 47 people. Some trials last months, some years and others continue indefinitely.
