(October 28, 2025 – RENO, Nev.) — Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada (CCNN) is extending a helping hand to families affected by the federal government shutdown and interruptions to SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits. Families with children are invited to enjoy a free hot dinner at St. Vincent’s Dining Room, located at 325 Valley Road in Reno.
Dinners will be served Nevada Day weekend—Friday, Saturday, and Sunday—from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., and will continue every Saturday and Sunday evening through the end of November. Guests are asked to bring their EBT card and a photo ID to verify eligibility for the dinner meal. Meals will be served on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.
“We know how difficult this shutdown is for families who depend on SNAP to feed their children,” said Marie Baxter, CEO of Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada. “We want to make sure no child goes without a meal, especially on weekends when they don’t have access to food at school.”
Because of the ongoing federal government shutdown, SNAP cards will not be reloaded with funds on November 1, leaving many families without the resources they depend on to purchase groceries.
In addition to this special program, St. Vincent’s Dining Room remains open daily, serving lunch to all who are hungry from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., 365 days a year.
Families are invited to join for a warm meal and a caring community as Catholic Charities continues its mission to serve those most in need during this challenging time.
