LAS VEGAS – High school students looking for variety and flexibility in their educational choices now have the option to take the classes they want, when they want. Faith Lutheran Middle School & High School rolled out Faith Lutheran Online (FLO), allowing students to learn from anywhere, anytime online or participate in a hybrid online/in-person education model.
“Faith Lutheran Online provides an educational experience that can continually grow and change, while the student continues to grow and change,” said Anna Orr, FLO director. Orr said 374 students took FLO classes during the summer and 60 more are taking online classes this fall. “We have a Faith Lutheran student taking classes while in Colorado,” she said.
“The ability to educate our students from, in reality, anywhere in the world, is a real game-changer,” said Dr. Steve Buuck, Faith Lutheran CEO. “The possibilities are endless.”
More than 80 online courses are available, ranging from Algebra to Electronic Music Production to World History. Online students are accountable for homework and assignments every week and while there is no ‘live’ instruction, each class has a teacher who facilitates the classroom, provides feedback and grades student work. FLO students interact and engage with other online students during class to enhance their educational experience.
FLO students can still participate in all on campus Faith Lutheran sports and extracurricular activities and the online class option can lower tuition based on how many classes are taken online versus in-person. “Faith Lutheran Online is perfect for students who either want to get ahead or get caught up in their coursework or take a class that didn’t fit into their in-person class load,” Orr said.
