Kathleen Taylor Files to Run for Mayor of Reno
Back-to-Basics, No-Nonsense Leadership for the Biggest Little City
(March 2, 2026 – Reno, Nev.) — Today, Reno City Councilwoman Kathleen Taylor officially filed her candidacy to become the next Mayor of the City of Reno. Taylor emphasized her commitment to making the difficult but necessary fiscal decisions to lead Reno through uncertain and challenging economic conditions.
“Today I officially filed because Reno is at a crossroads,” said Councilwoman Taylor. “The decisions we make over the next several years will determine whether our city remains financially strong and positioned for smart growth, or whether we allow short-term thinking to create long-term problems. I’m running to ensure Reno stays on a responsible, sustainable path.”
Taylor said her campaign will focus on restoring spending discipline at City Hall and prioritizing core services that residents rely on every day.
“Families across Reno are making careful financial decisions in their own households, and they expect their city government to do the same,” said Taylor. “We must prioritize essential services including public safety, roads and infrastructure, and our parks while also addressing our housing supply, all within our means. That takes leadership willing to make tough decisions and stand by them.”
Taylor’s campaign priorities reflect the City’s current financial realities, calling for fiscally responsible leadership that safeguards taxpayer dollars, identifies and supports critical services, advances housing policies to increase supply and attainability, and works to attract new businesses and innovative job creators. Committed to economic revitalization, she will lead a city government that is streamlined, efficient, and focused on results.
Councilwoman Taylor currently serves as Chair of the Reno Housing Authority and Vice-Chair of the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning and Governing Board. She also serves on several additional boards, including the Building Fund Advisory Committee, Community Homeless Advisory Board, Downtown Business Improvement District, and Truckee Meadows Water Authority. Additionally, she serves on the Board of The Eddy House.
Prior to serving on the City Council she served on the Reno Planning Commission for seven years, including as Chair, before being unanimously appointed to the Reno City Council in September 2022. In November 2024, she was elected to represent the newly created Ward 1. She served as vice mayor in 2025.
She is a native Nevadan, mother of two grown daughters, and a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in public administration. As a small business owner, she brings first-hand insight into the importance of fiscal responsibility and fostering a strong local economy.
