Henderson Professional Firefighters Local 1883 (HPFF), in collaboration with the City of Henderson Fire Department, City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department, Southern Nevada Health District and Henderson Hospital, is thrilled to announce the kickoff party for Super Safe Summer ‘23, a comprehensive safety initiative aimed at promoting awareness and prevention of heatstroke incidents and drowning incidents in children across southern Nevada.
The Super Safe Summer ‘23 kickoff party will take place on the first day of summer, June 21, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Whitney Ranch Activity Pool, located at 1575 W. Galleria Dr. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public and will be an exciting occasion filled with fun activities for all ages. Attendees can look forward to open swim sessions, bounce houses, face paintings, and delicious offerings from various local food trucks.
“This year Super Safe Summer ‘23 combines the efforts of the Safe Pools Rule! and Check Your Seats in the Heat campaigns to ensure a comprehensive approach to community safety,” said Dan Pentkowski, president of the Henderson Professional Fire Fighters. “With the alarming statistics of 23 children losing their lives in hot cars across the nation in 2021 and 10 fatal drownings right here in our own community last year, it is crucial to raise awareness about the dangers of leaving children unattended in both scenarios. We look forward to having parents and their children participate in this event to ensure everyone is equipped with the knowledge needed to have a fun and safe summer.”
The temperatures inside cars can exceed 150 degrees, and it takes as little as 15 minutes for a child to experience life-threatening heat-related injuries. Internal body temperatures of 107 degrees can cause severe cellular damage and organ failure.
Additionally, the Super Safe Summer initiative emphasizes the importance of the 3 P’s of Safety for pool related incidents – Patrol, Protect, and Prepare. By actively supervising children, implementing necessary safety measures, and being prepared for emergencies, we can significantly reduce the risk of drownings in our community.
The kickoff event serves as an invitation to the southern Nevada community to come together and enjoy a memorable evening of fun while simultaneously reinforcing the critical importance of awareness and prevention regarding these safety issues.
