(Reno, Nev.) – Boys and girls of Scout Pack and Troop 7322 and Girl Scout Troop 89 are teaming up with Catholic Charities & The St. Vincent’s Programs to continue a Reno tradition that’s been ongoing for more than 40 years. The “Scouting for Food” holiday food drive will be held Saturday and Sunday, November 14 and 15 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church at 1250 Wyoming Avenue, Reno, Nevada 89503. Scout members will be collecting donated food items before Masses on Saturday and Sunday. The community is encouraged to drive through and donate food and grocery store gift cards on 11/14 from 3:30pm-6:00pm and on 11/15 from 7:30am-10:30am and 4:30pm-5:30pm.
The food collected will include yams, cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, pie mix, custard, and frozen turkeys, and will benefit the hungry clients of our St. Vincent’s Food Pantry. Bags provided by Save Mart located at 10500 North McCarran Boulevard. All food items donated will be distributed by the St. Vincent’s Food Pantry and will go toward feeding local families who may otherwise go without a special Thanksgiving meal this year. Last year, the Scouts collected a record 6,000+ pounds of food, which is enough to provide more than 5,000 meals to local people in need.
The St. Vincent’s Food Pantry serves an average of 15,000 people each month by providing them with a pre-packaged food box containing fresh and non-perishable food items to supplement their home food supply.

The St. Vincent’s Food Pantry truck will be parked outside of St. Albert’s Church as local boy and girl scouts load food donations into barrels and onto the truck. This is a great opportunity to speak with local children who are getting involved in the spirit of giving. Masks and social distancing are required. The best time for video and interview opportunities will be at 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
