Sparks Mayor Ed Lawson Files for Re-Election
(March 2, 2026 – Sparks, Nev.) – Today, Sparks Mayor Ed Lawson officially filed for re-election, reaffirming his commitment to keeping Sparks safe, fiscally strong, and positioned for long-term economic success.
Lawson has served as Mayor since 2020, when he stepped into the role following the passing of Mayor Ron Smith. At the time, Lawson was serving as Vice Mayor, having first been elected to the Sparks City Council in 2010. Over the past several years, he has helped guide the city through continued growth while maintaining a strong focus on public safety, fiscal responsibility, and thoughtful planning.
“It has been the honor of my life to serve the people of Sparks,” Lawson said. “We’ve made real progress, but our work isn’t finished. I’m running to ensure Sparks stays on a strong pathway for the future.”
As mayor, Lawson has focused on setting a clear vision for Sparks’ long-term development. He has emphasized strengthening the city’s commercial and industrial base to expand employment centers, diversify the economy, and reinforce the tax base while sustaining essential services.
Mayor Lawson stands apart in his dedication to the planning process. He supports establishing distinctive city centers along the Truckee River, throughout the Oddie Boulevard corridor, and in downtown Sparks. Properly zoned and thoughtfully developed, these districts can seamlessly integrate residential neighborhoods with vibrant centers of business, culture, and tourism blending urban energy with Sparks’ unique character.
Lawson also strongly supports the Truckee Meadows Public Lands Management Act, which would transfer certain federal lands into local control to increase housing supply and affordability. He believes greater local control would spur economic growth and give Sparks the ability to welcome new businesses and housing in a way that aligns with community priorities.
Lawson has received the support and endorsement of Governor Joe Lombardo.
Since becoming mayor, Lawson has prioritized:
- Supporting police, fire, and first responders to keep Sparks safe
- Encouraging responsible economic development and job creation
- Maintaining fiscal discipline and transparency in city government
- Investing in infrastructure and long-term community planning

The Sparks primary election will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
