Depending on the situation, the power walls have a “gateway” that essentially acts as a switch and allows for remote control of power distribution to required circuits when the grid is down.
The Tesla app also lets the homeowner take the home off-grid whenever desired. The application can be used to operate the home on solar and battery when power rates are high and recharge when power rates are low. The system can project incoming weather data and program to charge to 100% in anticipation of needing battery backup.
