LAS VEGAS (June 19, 2025) – Dr. Tony Alamo, who leads Nevada Heart & Vascular Center in Las Vegas, has been awarded the 2025 University of Southern California “Alumni Service Award,” one of the highest honors given by the USC Alumni Association. The award recognizes alumni who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer service to USC and their communities.
A Las Vegas native and graduate of Chaparral High School and University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Alamo completed his medical education in 1991 at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and returned to Southern Nevada to serve his hometown.
He founded the Alamo Medical Clinic and was the chief of staff at several area hospitals. Currently, Alamo serves as chief physician executive and chief medical officer for Nevada Heart and Vascular Center, the state’s largest cardiology group. Dr. Alamo has been instrumental in providing access to tertiary care centers as well, including the Keck School of Medicine, for those patients in clinical need.
“This award means the world to me,” Alamo said. “USC helped shape my path as a physician and a leader. Giving back to the school and supporting the next generation of doctors is both a privilege and a responsibility I take to heart. I’m proud to represent both USC and the Las Vegas community wherever I go.”
In addition to his clinical work, Alamo made history as the first non-attorney to serve as chair of the Nevada Gaming Commission. He also served as chair of the Nevada Athletic Commission, where he advocated for athlete safety and famously voted against licensing boxer Mike Tyson in 2002.
Alamo also volunteered for two decades as a tactical physician with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s SWAT team. He was awarded Metro’s “Medal of Unit Valor” for his role in a 2006 hostage rescue operation.
He remains actively involved with USC as a mentor and advisory board member and has helped raise more than $5 million for cancer research and medical education through the Ensign Cancer Research Foundation.
