—Free bulky item disposal open to all Washoe County residents as part of WM’S Earth Day initiatives—
RENO, Nev. — Waste Management, a leading company in sustainable waste collection and management, is opening up their Lockwood Landfill at 2700 E. Mustang Road for free bulky item disposal from Friday, April 22 – Sunday, May 1, 2022 for residential disposal only. Lockwood Landfill will be open for free disposal from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sundays. This increases the number of available weekend days to four weekend days from three in 2021.
“We wanted to open up our landfill in order to mitigate the illegal dumping of larger bulky items like appliances and furniture pieces,” said Kendra Kostelecky, Northern Nevada PSS Manager. “The first step to a sustainable future is ensuring waste is contained to the areas they are meant to be, and we cannot wait to see our community take advantage of this opportunity.”
Free Dump Days at Lockwood Landfill will be open to residents of Reno, Sparks, Unincorporated Washoe County and Storey County. Commercial customers will be charged normal rates throughout the course of the week.
Acceptable items for disposal include household appliances like hot water heaters, stoves, dishwashers and washers/dryers. Bulky waste like sofas, chairs, mattresses and box springs will also be accepted. Tires are accepted and limited to four per residential household.

Free Dump Days are just one aspect of WM’s Earth Day initiatives. WM will also be at Reno Earth Day on April 24, 2022 from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. with educational materials on recycling and how Reno locals can use their services effectively to leave behind a greener Reno.
